Yes you do. You can not establish a contract until you are 18 years of age. Opening a bank account is in fact a legal document thus you must be of legal age to do this.
I check a lot of Bank sites and this seems to be the case.

honestly, alot of people are saying yes to this, but i have to dissagree, unless they finally made that into a law, in the us, which would be good. I would watch getting a check/debit acc, because even with either, you can over draw, on accident, and be stuck with bills, which may be hard to come up with the $$ to pay for. I would test myself with a savings account first, if I were so lucky to go back in time, and watch how I handled it until I turned 18., or even 17, if I was doing really well. I got a acc at 14, and I am just talking by life exp. hope it helps.

Yes you do and I doubt whether you will get away with signing it for them as they will ask for parent's driving licence, passport or whatever. Year's ago you had to be introduced to a bank by someone who thought you were OK making it a bit like a gentleman's club in London

Here, in Tibet, you got to have your parents permission whenever you step into a temple-bank, even if you are over 91 years old. However at 92 you really can skip their signatures. O yeh!
