Isit better to get the reward here and now or in another lifetime?

It is said that those who visibly do good deeds or fasting etc are looking for their reward in this lifetime ( praise, accolades etc.) those who do those things in secret recieve a far better reward after they have lived this life ( either in heaven or the summerland or whatever you believe happens when you die) I do not mean a physical reward.

The deed done in secret -- A deed should be done because you have the opportunity and the ability with no thought of reward no or later

basically the one done humbly and in secret. Jesus got it right,he ask us to do good deeds but in secret. Religiously Jesus spoke about pharisee custom to praise themselves.

On the other hand too much modesty is not useful since people need to know us. It depends also what are the circumstances.
For example if you prepare hard for an interview( or exam) you dont need to do it secretly.
But if you help a friend in need you don't boast yourself. You do it because (s)he was your friend.
as for the other question: there is no other lifetime.

A 'good deed' is never done for a reward - or acknowledgment.

the one done in secret and humbly...is usually more sincere in comparison to one done visibly.
the one done visibly could be for ulterior motives

and for the other question...if i do something good...then i don't really expect a reward for it because it is done from the heart.
not to say that i would turn it down if given to me.....

I'd rather do a good deed secretly. I don't like attention.
