Ive been playing with Wilson Tennis balls for a while and have been playing a high level of tennis. passing shots, ground strokes, inside out forehands etc etc etc. I bought some PENN tennis balls in Saturday and used these yesterday on the same court with the same racket against the same opponent - i could not control the balls at all. Everything was either going long or in the net. the balls felt dead and unresponsive. I had no rhythm and could not get into the match, we were having no rallies where last week rallies were going 10,11,12 shots.

I dont want to blame the balls but i really do think PENN balls are goddam awful. Anyone else experience this type of thing - its driving me mad!

I have to say my opponent noticed the same thing and mentioned it first but hes just rubbing it in saying i should have adjusted my grip and compensated however we were both suffering as the rallies were not happening!!!!

Blame the balls. Never admit you cannot play. Thats what I do.
I had three penalties last week in a football match. The goal posts move everytime. Unbelievable!

Wilson Tennis Balls Are The Best To Use. Although I Would Try Harder To Be Able To Use Any Make Of Ball. I Mean Tennis Champion Doesn't Always Ask For A Specific Type Of Ball.
Or Maby You Were Just Having An Off Day.

Sometimes You Just Have To Try And Try Again.

Hope This Helps xx

Don't blame the balls. If you want to be a successful tennis player then you should able to play with any tennis ball. Keep on practising with the penn tennis balls and I assure you that, you would be good at controlling the balls. And one day, you will top tennis player.

Good Luck

That's exactly the opposite of what I think of Wilson and Penn balls. Penn balls play heavier and much more power needs to be delivered by the player. Wilson balls are more "live"..

You can blame the balls since the Wilson and Penn balls play differently. Look for a recent article in the tennis magazine online www.tennis.com and they talk about different balls..

Although all balls are supposed to be the same, they aren't! Well known facts: wilson balls are hard and seem heavy, penn balls are light and hard, dunlop balls are ok, a bit on the heavy side as well, the best balls hands down are slazenger.
I sympathize with you man, I have the same problem. Although we usually use Slazenger balls, we also hate Penn balls to death. They are so hard and light that after using slaz balls, the penn balls usually are so fast and hard to control that they usually end up long or wild! I am a bit of an accomplished player meself, been playing since i was 4, also in the juniors.
If you are good though, after a few balls hit, you are able to adjust to any condition, court surface, string tension, sun, wind, balls,...etc.
I even have this rival who has penn balls in his bag only for when he plays me...jokes on him though, i've learned to adjust as well!
Good tennis to you all!!!

you must have been having an off day.....the ball, however different, makes very little contribution to how bad you played that day. sure some balls 'die' pretty quickly and yes, some ball tend to be heavier....just make sure you get the ones made for the surface you're playing in. the rest is on your game. maybe your opponent was extra-inspired not to let you in the game at all. it's just not you. if your opponent is having a good day, trust me, you're going to lose the game.

I dont think you should blame the balls...they were probably not tournament. They would be best for juniors who have to put more action into their shots to get the ball over the net. Keep to Wilson or Dunlop.

It is in your mind or you were having an off day on the court. Clear your mind and play thinking that the balls are Wilson make,I am sure that you will come back to form.

I haven't tried too many balls to have a problem like this, maybe you just had an off day, it happens, try the balls again. Or maybe your strings might be coming loose.

Different type of ball really do throw you off.....i think Wilson bounces a little more...i prefer Penn over Wilson because i believe it lasted a little bit longer and bounces a little lower which is perfectly suited for my eastern forehand....In my opinion, Penn is a good fit for eastern and semi-western grips.....to asnwer your question, you should make a quick adjustment regardless of balls though....i think you had an off day....
