why are neckties expensive?

i just got a new job wherein it requires to be in formal attire, i did shopped some suits and long sleeve shirts yesterday...and i wonder why are neckties very expensive? sometimes much expensive than the long sleeve shirt they're used with, considering that it's just a small piece of cloth.

its the quality that is put into making the tie. it should be made out of silk and should have that nice sheen to it. you don't need too many ties anyways as you can probably have a couple basic ties allowing you to splurge on a couple more shirts which fall into the same color palette. buy about 3 ties and three shirts (hopefully a white, blue and something fun), paired with your suits you'll have at least 10 different outfit combinations to choose from!

Yeah all these goddamm small things are very expensive, especially if the necktie is made of puresilk.

I hate it when i was forced to buy a necktie for a meeting, with that money i could have bought a pair of branded Jeanes.

As finish is very important and no one will accept slightest defect on it so necktie is always very good finish in terms of febric and workmanship which makes it so expensive.

Mostly because you are buying a name, not a product. Swing by a second hand store they cost like a dollar, thats where I get all my fly neckwear:)

Most are made out of 100% silk it take allot of time and money to make silk

You could find some cheap ones too which are not so popular brand names.

You can always go for non designer ties, just make sure it looks good.
