First of all, he did NOT have his child with him.
Secondly, I think there would be a meriad of reasons as to why he has done this. May be he needed a physical and mental challenge. We all live our lives differently and according to our own moral reasonings. True, he had a child, but at the same time, he was a young man too. He did not loose his identity just because he became a father, but may be he needed to do this just for himself. Yes, it is tragic, but he had a go. He attempted to do something quite extraordinary. How may others can say the same?
I know personally that I have taken some risks, just to feel alive. I'm jumped out of planes etc. and you know, I knew the risks. But life is just so short. May be he died doing something he was passionate for (Steve Irwin anyone?). People are now stuck in offices 9-
5 and never see the world outside their office window.
RIP Andrew

Sum of you people seem to miss understand the badly worded question. He did not take his child (of course). I think it was a bad choice to make. But some people feel that 'normal' life cannot satisfy them. Its sad but if he had not gone on that challenge or some equally dangerous one he probably would not be a happy father or person for that matter. People seeking these challenges (not always but) generally get depressed doing things that in our lives would feel great (such as teaching his child to ride a bike).
Its sad
i feel for the kid

Some people are driven to excel in their particular thing and his particular thing happens to be kayaking. It is so sad isnt it? But there are man other dangerous activities that people participate in too. What about jumping out of a plane trusting a piece of material to open up and save you?!
