I used to have two dwarf hampsters and I had them in the same cage... I saw them fighting occassionally (it was the smaller one picking on the bigger one) and I didn't do much about it because I thought they were playing. One night I got home at 3 in the morning and I heard them making a lot of noise, so I went over and took the bigger one out and he was bleeding on his nose, ear, paw, back and underneath him. I kept him somewhere safe and left a note telling my parents what happened. They still didn't do anything and I wanted to keep them safe so I thought about taking them back... well that never happened either. So they were fine again... and a few weeks after that I got back home and it was 4 in the morning... and they were still there. The next morning I woke up and no one was home and I wanted to play with them... well I looked in the cage and my hampster was dead... chewed on on the neck (it was so gross) and he was like... flat. Is this normal for them to do stuff like that?

I had both the hampsters for 8 months before this had happened... I saw it coming but I didn't actually think one would kill the other??? Now I don't have the one that killed the other... someone has now has it... I couldn't handle looking at it... made me sick.

I feel really bad for you, but even though you couldn't do much about it, I think you should have either bought another cage, or divided their cage up. Any sign of fighting can mean bloodshed, death, or even illness. If your hamsters are fighting, and you're there, ADMETEATLY either make a LOUD noise, and while they're startled, pick one up, or put a ruler in between them. But DON'T try to put your hand in the cage. You will get bitten, scratched, or kicked. I mean kicked. Hamsters DO kick. I also suggest reading a few books before you buy your next set of hamsters. Some hamsters don't go well together.

My kids had a Hamster that ate her hamster babies. Talk about gross. Hamsters when under stress revert back to their baser instincts.
