Tone - totally different sounds, so it's like comparing apples and oranges. Each is cool in its own way. I prefer the strat sound myself, thinner and funkier.

Price - the SG is one of the cheapest Gibsons, fairly comparable to a good strat. The cheapest Fenders are made in Mexico, and I find them unimpressive, but occasionally you'll find a good one.

Look - both are classic guitar bodies and come in all sorts of finishes. I'm partial to my '75 natural strat hardtail with white pickguard.

Ibanez RG2570 or 1570 Prestige; Carvin DC747... they can doo everything both a Strat and an SG can do, and then some, and they are lookers, especially Carvins.

Depends on which models you're talking about. Some strats are the rage, some are crap.
