In computers there are lot of settings that can be configured. And generally there are more than a few administrators supporting a Server or Firewall.

So if they dont have a change mechanism one person working wont know or cant be sure if something is chaned by the person in shift before him.

Thats where Configuration Management comes in. We have something called as Change Request Form. So when a change needs to be done on the critical devies and CRF is raised and the supervisor has to approve it before he can make the change.

Later some one else would review the change to make sure that other systems are not effected because of that change.
