is there a particular website that could tell me the name of a song and a list of who sang it

I usually just google the song lyrics and the options down the page will list the websites (title and artist) eg "flame trees lyrics" will come up with Sarah blasko and Cold Chisel.

I also like www.letssingit.com because in the drop down menu you can type in a lyric or the song title/artist and it will give you an extensive list. So even if you only know 1 sentence you can find it.

You can use the gracenote database for this. It's the same service used by iTunes to identify new audio CDs on a computer.
