The really interesting thing is how everyone seems to be ignoring the "IF" at the begining of the question.
It is sad how this IS important and because we can't trust our leaders a real threat might be treated differently.
Nobody believes a liar even when they tell the truth!
And it's not the liars that wind up paying, it's the troops and iraqi civilians!

It's not phony. Russia has told the world in no uncertain terms that they have been supplying arms to Iran. Rumsfeld had nothing to do with this. This is a Russian gig. Personally I believe that Saddam sent what he had in Nukes to Iran to get rid of them so the UN inspectors didn't see them. The military spotted a lot of trucking activity where these thing were supposed to be stored...and also they were in the train cars. He had this stuff taken to Iran...but no one wants to believe that.
They are NOT escalating the war...they already said it at least 20 times and we wouldn't even have enough troops to send. Congress has NOT even approved the 21,500 or the money to be sent. They're using the POWER OF THE PURSE they are so very proud of now that they have majority rule. We also have military equipment setting and waiting for repair. 12,000 Armored Humvee that our guys need very badly and they're still arguing about 'if or not they should give the military the money to do this, then sit and complain that Bush keeps making errors. Looks to me like they're doing a LOT to hold things up while our guys are left in a vulnerable position. They'll blame the president for that, too. Donald Rumsfeld does NOT have an office in the pentagon. Once your out, your out.

Why ask a question if you already have an answer? I guess to make a point.
Well, to give it a serious answer, it depends on how the information was obtained. Even with the best intentions, you'll sometimes get inaccurate information from the real world. People don't always tell the truth, curse the lot of them. So - if it was legitimately obtained and simply turned out to be false, then obviously there should be no prosecution. If it was deliberately falsified, then there certainly should be.
However, if you've been paying any attention to Iran the past couple of years - as a poster above me has noted - you'll realize that the chances of it being false are fairly slim.

I don't believe the evidence is false, but Iran and the Shiites in Iraq are natural allies. Iran is a Shia state, while Iraq's population is composed of 80% Shiia. The Shiites had little power under Saddam. Hundreds of thousands were killed under his rule. They are seeking revenge on the Sunnis who denied them rights for 35 years. At the same time, Saudi Arabia is financially supporting the Sunnis, even though there is no evidence of them "YET" arming the Sunnis. Why single out Iran? Why not single out Saudi Arabia, too? Both sides are contributing to the sectarian violence in Iraq, and there is nothing the US can do about it, period. It's time to bring our troops home, proof or no proof.

Even if it was accurate intelligence, the administration has lost all credibility. And it probably is being pumped up to give support to adding more troops to Iraq. It would be impossible to get another war authorization from congress to ever attack Iran.
As for prosecuting people who come up with the intelligence, that's a non-starter. There's good intelligence and bad and sometimes there's mistakes made. You can't prosecute that. If the President's staff cherry picks intelligence for political reasons, THAT should be prosecuted

That's like trying to prosecute those who planned the assasination of Martin Luther King Jr. so that government employees can have an extra day off with pay...

It's wise for the Elders to go through their home-work.
Don't leave it and let the young ones to solve it.
They can't solve it with loss of our creator's universal gifts of life in planet of apes.
What they can see is only on the surface.
Those antiques with creaky legs should be able to see the footprints before making any serious decision in planet of apes.
Lessons learned from the Iraq's war in planet of apes.
Every bits and pieces of paper that look innocent is very vital to the antiques with creaky legs.
Even if it does'nt make any sense to the young ones in planet of apes.
Just let the antiques work on it.

I think Iran's president is an enemy to America. He has said as much as often as he can.
I think we should go after the Iranian President with charges of aiding known terrorist in the UN. Show him for what he really is: a terrorist sympathiser.
