I was sprinting and I had this sudden pain and pull at the front of my upper thigh. I believe it's called the quadriceps. I also got Delayed onset muscle soreness a few days after that.

I recovered from DOMS about almost 2 weeks later, but my quadricep is still not well yet, it's almost 3 weeks now. When I run or jog slowly, it won't hurt. But wen I stretch my leg (slowly) by pulling my feet up towards my back, my quadriceps hurt.

I will be having a selection in about 13 hours from now. Do you have any good suggestions that I can make it thru this screening session? I will need to sprint as fast as I can, which will hurt my quad, and slow me down alot.

Also, even if I get thru this screening, I will be entering competition early next month. Any chance for my thigh to reciver completely by then? or should I just give up?

Any methods to allow it to heal faster? Or for tomorrow, how do I make sure they don't hurt, or work well?

To DaveS: But in sprinting, shouldn't the front of my feet reach the ground first, instead of the heel? I just tried sprinting with the heel reaching ground first and I looked like a duck, and how can I sprint fast like that?

I think I got what you mean. I will help alot with preventing the pain. But using any heel will certainly slow me down alot.

concentrate on your heal touching the ground first at every waking moment. It automatically makes you use more hamstring than quad, and alligns the impacts and body weight support correctly instead of it being with more % onto the fromnt of your leg.
You can prove this to yourself when doing squats by first postureing more on the toes and squating, and then put all body weight onto the heels and squat. you see it instant make a difference and activate the whole movement into the back of your leg, not affecting front leg injuries at all.
I think heel heel heel and heel first then toe, when running or sprinting and much pain and knee problems have vanished instantly.

Quadricep Strain

my senior yr of high school I tore my quad muscles sprinting. I had stretched and everything, but my first hard sprint on the soccer field I felt searing pain and fire in my quads. I continued to play the rest of the season, but I was not as fast and was in pain every time. Nor could I kick the ball very hard anymore. I found deep massage before and after activity as well as much stretching helps. So does wearing tight ace bandages around the things to help when your muscles contract from running. It sucks, and my quads still get extremely sore after running or doing leg exercises. I have scat tissue in my muscles and a hard lump/cyst that is still there. I went to physical therapy afterwards for that and some other knee/hip problems. During the season the trainer would help me stretch and used this machine to make my muscles contract involuntarily-kind of like an ultrasound looking thing. It all helped though. Good luck-just see a doc!

I agree with the ATC student - myositis ossificans is a concern you should take seriously. You may well have a bit of a quad tear here. You should be checked by your team's doctor, ATC or therapist.
Good luck.

it would be a good idea to see an athletic trainer. they will treat the injury for you. they might give you a brace to wear while you compete. however, if you tore the muscle you might get what is called myositis ossificans because you did not take care of it properly right away.
