This is the writing section of the SAT and here it goes...

If I [were](A) you, I would never permit [him](b) [to take part](c) in such an [exhuasting and painful](d) activity. [no error](e)

The book says that the answer is "E"
Isn't there supposed to be "a" between "take" and "part" in (C)???

thats correct. read it out loud. "to take part" and "to take a part" to take a part sounds like youre suppose to tear up whatever activity the sentence states. if theres a problem its exhuasting, it's spelled wrong. but that could be a typo. so hope this helps. I thought the booklets would have explanations. hhmm.. strange..

Sileg's right. in the given sentence, "take part" means To participate. making it take A part would mean get a role in a play or another performance.
