This is my business, I am a commercial photographer with considerable experience and have been a certified model consultant since 1991
First thing-- you MUST have some experience at modeling skills--these can be learned through local fashion shows OR working with an experienced photographer---If you do a school for this training-- look for one that will not only train you but will provide you with follow up services after the course of training is over
And, then will come the Portfolio---which is (in brief) a photographic Proof of your photogenic abilities--- this collection of photo's will be your representative work and should be full of photos that run the gambit of every look you can provide---12 to 20 8 x 10's in a professional binder---that are as different from one another as is humanly possible !!
There are the first steps
Hope this helps and Good Luck !!!

First step is definitely commitment. You MUST be committed to something if you really consider doing it as a career. The second step would be, to research Modeling/Acting (they usually come together) schools in your area. Do not go to an agency. Go to a school that will teach you the proper way to model and act, and represent yourself, so agencies will like you. Agencies do not prepare you, agencies only hire models that are ready. With a school once you finish/graduate, you will be ready and confident, and will leave with a lot of knowledge in this very competitive business, and the school usually lends you a list, with agencies they do business with, which would mean they are not fake or scammers. Make sure you check with the a better business bureau to make sure the school is not a fake. You need to be careful.
The school will teach you EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW!
They'll help you build a PROFESSIONAL resume and portfolio. AGENCIES DO NOT DO THIS.
GOOD LUCK!!!

There are models of all sizes, dont just perceive size zero as the only size for modelling.
What you need to do is build a portfolio of photos, if you can pay a photographer thats great, if not get a friend who has an eye for a good photo to take some photos of you in different settings and clothes. You have to have something to show a modelling agency for them to even think about taking you on.
Once you have built your portfolio ring around some credible agencies and ask for an appointment to go and see them with your portfolio......dont let them take your portfolio, or try and get you to take nude photos.

Take some pictures, create a portfolio... attempt to get to understand some those who're already interior the organization. deliver the portfolio with something else you want to dissimilar organizations. in the adventure that they reject you in the starting up, artwork at recuperating your portfolio and deliver it in again to exhibit them you're serious! sturdy success :) wish you're making it! in spite of the undeniable fact that it would want to be an exceptionally troublesome organization to get into, so dont get discouraged in case you dont prevail in the starting up.

Send a picture to a local magazine.
Look for an agent.
Look for a modelling school
And note that body figure and face visual counts. So if you aren't good at that, then no luck.
