A few years ago. there was a study done of democracy and freedom from corruption. New Zealand and Denmark came top of the list. Ireland was 11th - we've the most democratic voting system in the world, but have a wee problem with corruption.

Bottom of the list were Afghanistan (under Taliban control), Saudi Arabia and Myanmar.

I think I would go along with that as a list of most and least civilised. Surely the mark of civilisation these days is the acknowledging of people's basic rights?

That's a loaded question, but you did ask for an opinion. So here goes. Isn't the United States of America the youngest Civilizations in the known world? Well maybe not but were certainly one of them. I don't necessarily believe that wisdom is a product of age exclusively. But it would appear that the natural progression of any culture is to become more civilized with age and experience. Keeping that in mind, I'd say were one of the less civilized countries on earth. As for the most civilized ...it's a toss up. But I just found out that Costa Rica abolished both there military and the death penalty sometime in the mid 1900's, 1850 if I remember right. Pretty enlightened if you ask me.

First you will have to define your meaning of 'civilized'. Civilization is such a vague and vast term and has countless permutations.. There is a major unspoken assumption in your question. You assume your reader is in a judging position. So I siting in front of my home cinema with my computers virtual reality cyberspace can give you my considered opinion about the !Kung in the Kalahari desert. The point is that I can not have an unbiased opinion to this question. So the only answer I can give you is. The one I live in is the best everybody else is inferior. This answer applies to all cultures.
