It is possible to go there and swim then but i cant say you will enjoy it. If you can manage a day where it is sunny and not that windy, you might be able to sit on the beach in comfort but i wouldnt go near the water unless you have a wetsuit and are a competent swimmer. The cold water can cause cramps and that can mean trouble for inexperienced swimmers.

Some people swim at the beach every day of the year. Sydney has an average maximum in May of 19.3°. The highest ever recorded was 30°C. Temperatures in the 20s are common. The water temperature is lower than in summer so you might need a wet suit if you are going to be in the water for a while.

May is starting to get cool in Sydney, but there are still nice, warm sunny days occasionally. If you got out of the cool sea breeze, you could sit on the beach, or go for a walk along it, but the water temp is too cold to swim by this time.

If its sunny any day of the year, all beaches are crowded on weekends. But not many people swim in winter. On a sunny day in winter, lots of people go to the beach wearing their jumpers and coats to go for a walk and have fish and chips for lunch. Because there's really nothing much else to do in Sydney in winter.

Oh u never know because with Sydney weather, it's always confusing ! last summer there was a time when in the early morning it was less than 10 degrees. It also rains and thunderstorms in summer. it's sooo weird, so it's best to check the weather forecast daily .. but usually, May is a time when it's getting colder during the Winter season in June .. so it's unlikely that it'll be hot.
