It seems that you either hate it or love. What do you think? I liked it becase there was no cussing and no "nasty scenes".

I thought it was predictable. Even if it wasn't, a good TWIST ending should totally change the way you view what happened up to that point in the movie (see 6th Sense or Usual Suspects). At the end of that movie I was like, ok well that was kind of interesting, but I didn't really care at that point. I think that M trapped himself by making 6th Sense his first movie. The problem is that the audience is expecting some mind blowing ending to his movies, and he hasn't delivered recently (see Lady in the Water. Paul G was entertaining, but the movie was just strange and didn't have much of a twist). Granted, not every movie has to have a twist, but I think it's become expected of him and his movies.

Hated it because I was deceived. Deceived into thinking it was scary. It was just like Lady in the Water. You should watch that if you liked the village. Interesting storyline.....almost like a cult.......people in the village being lied to to keep them within the borders. I agree with your words on the no profanity and naked scenes. I was able to show my younger siblings without cringing or having to screen it before showing. I guess I was just disappointed by how they advertised the movie.

The problem that people have with The Village is that it was marketed wrong, people thought it was going to be a horror film and it wasn't hence the reason they felt let down. I love the film personally, it's a great blend of inner conflict and drama. The ending is genius.

What I like about M. Night Shyamalan's movies is not so much the film itself, than the concept behind it. His films are multi-dimensional: on one level there's the obvious story, but there's almost always a deeper social / spiritual meaning behind it. Most ppl I know hate his films coz they just expect to be 'entertained' and can't be bothered with what he's really trying to convey.

But I think he's a great filmmaker (though he would have to cater to a mainstream audience if he wants to earn his livelihood). I liked The Village, but my favourite movie by him is Signs - on one hand, its obviously about crop circles and alien invasions, but on a deeper level its about signs that there is a God / higher power watching over you and that everything happens for a reason.

I refused to watch it for quite a while because it was made out to be a really scary movie (I can deal with scary to a degree). Finally my husband asked me to watch it again and I agreed provided he didn't get pissed off when I grabbed his arm. lol

Anyway, I watched it, I was scared by the red-caped monster running through the woods, but aside from that moment, I wasn't scared like I had thought I would be.

It was a decent movie though, I enjoyed it.

I liked it, but I wasn't surprised like everyone else was. I was with my husband. And he was looking for my reaction, like I was going to be in awe or something. And he tried to explain it to me. I told him that I always knew that they were in today's time because Mormons live like that today. He didn't have very nice things to say about me. The council was just trying to protect the children from the outside world as they still do today.
Today there is no TV, no radio, no cars, horse n buggy, small school house for all ages.
Hints were everywhere in this movie.

I agree with you, it's a movie you either love or hate and I am happy to say I loved it, because of it's originality and just the whole atmosphere of the movie. Plus everyone loves a good twist.

HTH : )

I liked it, although it did remind me of an old 2000AD comic strip where an old cowboy/prospector type man left his homestead in the early 1800's to get some medicine ending up in the present day at a gas station.
Very very very similar if you ask me.

Loved it. I thought it was in the style of the Old Twlight Zone stuff. I really got a kick out of the ending. I know people who got mad cause they were wrong in trying to figure it out...LOL but I just enjoyed it and the ending was the best part I think.
