-PictoChat can be fun with friends (though it doesn't have wireless access which bugs me...)
-It has more exclusive games than the PSP. It also has some quirkier games (such as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, where you gather evidence at crime scenes and then you have to win cases in court; and Trauma Center, where you're a surgeon operating on patients).
-There are some more traditional games, platformers like Super Mario and Castlevania, a few RPGs and a couple RTS / Strategy games.
-Backwards compatible with GBA games, and they still put out quite a few of those every month, so if you see a GBA game you want to play, you can pick it up and play it in your DS.
-If you live in Japan or Europe (or want to pay some money to import it), you can get the DS Browser, put out by Opera(1), you can use that to browse the internet at wifi hotspots.
-It's really easy to use, especially with the touch screen. It makes navigating menus and typing very easy.
I don't know, I just got one last week and I've been hooked. I picked up Mario Kart DS and played that online with some people I know from a forum, and it's just fun. The touch screen is fun to mess around with, too, for some reason... I can't explain it :D

It's portable, runs long on a charged battery, and has the innovative touch screen and microphone, that opens up new possibilities to interact with games.
For example: In an adventure you are supposed to blow dust off a picture. So instead of "normal" consoles giving orders by pushing buttons, you actually blow into the microphone.
Or in "New Mario Bros", the touchscreen gives you an additional button to activate extras.
So if you want to play games differently, the DS is the system to go.

I love the touch screen, and I love the fact that you don't need batteries, you can just charge it up. And the games are awesome.
