how can i harden play-doh?

Leave it out in the open air. If it's not kept in a sealed container, it will harden. If you're using Play-doh to make figures and want them to harden, it will take longer and may not result in what standard clay would. If making figures, it's better to use clay than Play-doh.

Oh, and femo (it's like a super soft, rubbery consistency) is also another great alternative!!

Play-Doh hardens in air. Just leave it uncovered. If you are trying tomake something you would want to keep, I would suggest some other material since Play-Doh will crack and the color also tends to fade over time. If it is left out in a big chunk, it will become rock hard. If it is in an intricate design or small pieces, it can crumble.

That stuff is awful. My grandchildren and I have crafted since they were 5 using "promo-Fe-mo-or Pal. clay. The clay costs about $2.oo per little packet. Most of the time, they do not want their creations baked because they want to keep the clay to play with. It you put the clay back in a plastic sandwich bag, the clay can last longer than play-doh. These types of clay do not make messes that the doh makes. You can find it on sale at Michael's and probably other craft stores. We would be lost without our clay. I do use some of my projects in an art show.

Put it out on the sun or leave the jar open. The play doh will get hard.

Playdoh does not harden well. If you are making something larger with Playdoh, it will crack and break.

tiny pieces will dry if exposed to air for an extended amount of time.

If you are successful with out cracking, I would recommend coating the item with a varnish.

Good Luck.

It also gets nasty looking when it dries. You may seriously want to check out "sculpty" brand modeling clay. It blends nicely, kneads well, and when baked is GREAT. My son made a shark in Kindergarten out of this product and it's still looking as good as when he first made it. He's in 7th grade now.

Leave it lay out. Air hardens it.
