Baby detergent is gentler and less likely to cause a rash or other irritation on baby's skin, yes. However, if you prefer not to have to separate baby's laundry from yours, or you just don't like the smell of baby detergent, using a regular detergent that is free of dyes or perfumes will do the same thing. They even told us this at our baby classes.
I use Cheer Free & Gentle for all my laundry. I also use fragrance free fabric softener.

Its supposed to be gentler. The chemicals are harsher in regular soaps. I used baby detergent about the first 6 mos and switched over to regular with no bleach additives. I also then started using a little fabric softner. You can still use your soap, just rinse twice to get all the soap out and use just a tiny bit of fabric softner. Every so often I did that if I ran out of the baby detergent with no probs.

Yes, it is less harsh to babys sensitive skin. A cheaper alternative to those expensive detergents is All free and clear. They also make All free and clear fabric softener sheets. That is what my allerginist remcommended I use on my kids clothes as well as anything else that the kids would come in contact with.

yes. The chemicals inside the baby detergent is more "gentle" on baby skin, not as strong as the ones we are using for adult washing...

yes it is more gentle then regular soap. It costs a little more but it is made with less abrasive chemicals that can make a babies skin break out with a rash.
