These girls clawed their way against adversity when they could have skulked away into obscurity.

Actually, if you listen to the lyrics, the song IS NOT about the President, but the death threats and violent backlash from the public over a flippant, ill-timed comment that the media exploited to the fullest.

It was a message about coping with the anger on the journey to forgiveness. Other musicians support them because they understand the role the media plays in these matters.

Hope this helps.

To make nice is to act friendly, or pleasantly, towards someone, usually when you've had a fight or something. So she's saying she'll still angry about something, can't forgive yet, and isn't ready to make up with the person she's upset with.

After All the Crap the Chicks and their fans went thru, this is 110% Vindication for all of us!!! When the Bandwagon fans, Nashville, and the Industry turned their backs on them and us, The Real True Fans. The Real True Fans kept on Supporting them!!! Anybody who is a Real True Fan of theirs is Smiling from Ear to Ear. This makes My Year!!! I went to their Concert in November in Phoenix, it was smaller in scale compared to their last tour when they were Huge, but it was Great to see The Real True Fans come together and support the Chicks!!! So Natalie has every right to do what she did at the Grammys, She could have been Nastier, but it was Great that She did it the way She did it by saying, "Well, to quote the great 'Simpsons' — 'Heh-Heh.' So "Heh Heh" to all those people who turned their backs on the Chicks!!!

This song is about not making any excuses for the comments that were made about the President. The Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith had words also but as an American she has the right of free speech! Go Chicks!

it means she is not ready to make things good between her and the other person because she isn't quite sure what they want from her and she feels that whatever she has done to try to mend things isn't working so she is giving up for now.
