The 1980 Olympic Hockey team's 'Miracle on Ice" was much more thrilling. Magic, Bird, Sir Charles, Michael et al were expected to dominate and win the gold. The Hockey team had little or no expectations for a medal. Fourth place would have been an achievement. Beating the Soviets and beating FINLAND (not Sweden) for the Gold medal was far more exciting than watching the pros killing the little guys (much like the Soviets had done in Hockey for the twenty years before the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid).

Why does it haeve to involve the US winning? I wonder...
For me, it's every time Romania triumphed.
For instance seeing an all-Romanian podium at the Sydney Olympic games' gymnastics AA competition.
Or boxer Nicolae Linca winning in 1956 with an injured hand... Or Romania beating the Russians in handball in Moscow 1980.
Or of course Nadia in Montreal 1976. Or Diana Mocanu winning a backstroke double in swimming. Or Kati Szabo winning more medals at the LA Olympics than Carl Lewis (I bet you didn't know that!) Or Viorica Viscopoleanu winning the long jump in Mexico 1968 with a world record. Or Lia Manoliu winning the discus with an injured arm. And so on...
When I come to think of it, we've had more such "celestial moments than the Americans!

i recognize it truly is a hockey pastime. i'd say because of a few solid motives. First of which america become no longer envisioned to be in the medal round, nor were they envisioned to be there. They were a gentle team, the adverage age become 21 years old. the U.S. team were more beneficial of a pro team, and far of them performed at the same time for the finest decade or so. The Soviet Union were exepcted to be there, america adult males's team become no longer. they'd lost to that individual same team 10-3 very virtually 2 weeks previously, to that individual same team at Madison sq. backyard. And plus the actual reality no individual had ever worked not uncomplicated sufficient to skate with them for a whole pastime. and they were undfeated, even in 40 2 video games, with out losses. won't be able to say even as previously they'd lost a pastime, to a team.
