It may vary from country to country. But generally, there should be an offer letter from the company. This document should spell out all the terms of the employment. It will require your signature the signature of the MD or GM of the company. You will have an original copy of this document and so will the company. This document is prove that you are an employee. Also, your company is required by law to contribute CPF (Central Provident Fund) in Singapore. So that's for sure you are hired.

Do not be confused between contract staff and fulltime staff. But there should still be an offer letter.
