Barring the fact that it would never work out salary-wise, a team of Kobe, Odom, and Yao would pretty much dominate the NBA. For all of Yao's physical shortcomings (most of which is because he's 7-5), he's shown this season that he can play at a consistent level every game. Many people bring up questions about his durability, but for the first 3 seasons he barely missed any games. Furthermore, he has improved upon his game each season in the NBA (including endurance), and shows no signs of peaking anytime soon (he has historically played his best basketball after the all-star break and into the next season). He plays hard and puts a lot of effort into practice, so he'd fit in with almost any team.
If Yao happened to somehow team up with Kobe and Odom, they's be unstoppable, at least on offense. Having Yao's size at center allows Odom to freely play either forward spot with no concerns about defense or rebounding, and Odom is traditionally at his best when he manages to exploit mismatches at the small forward/power forward position. They would have a killer high-post low-post game going on. Yao does turn the ball over, but his passing skills are underrated, and would fit well in Jackson's triangle offense. But the greatest impact that Yao would have is on raising the level of play of Kobe Bryant. While Kobe can probably score at will, Yao now enables Kobe to be more proficient at 1 on1 play, as the center who's guarding Yao can't double team on Kobe when he drives. This was essentially the same effect that Shaq had when he was with the Lakers; players were afraid to leave Shaq for fear of an offensive rebound or an alley-oop. Also, it's always nice to have a center who can get 25/10 in the post.
That's just the basic ways that Yao could aid the Lakers.

As a laker fan I would not want to see this at all
Yao is good for maybe 40 games a year and I don't like the idea of "forking out the cash" yao is not a dominate force as with him as the main guy last year (without McGrady) he led his team to about a 30% win clip
This year the rockets didn't start winning until yao went down so his overrated self can stay on the pine
yao also plays in the offseason which is part of the reason he gets hurt all the time for his real team with the other being he has a very poor work ethic and conditioning level
Yao ming is not the answer and Bynum has a lot more potential than him
yao's softer than the Pillsbury Dough Boy and a career loser
NO THANKS
the lakers need a real star

To answer your question, yes. I'd just like to say that the Yao hate is laughable. If I didn't know anything about Yao I would think that you guys are talking about some bum right off the scrap heap. The man was getting 26 and 9.5, 87% line before his injury. As far as being injury prone I don't think that two injuries in 5 seasons defines injury prone. If you want to ask someone what injury prone is, ask Yao's teammate T-Mac or his cousin Vince. They'll tell you what being injury prone is all about.

They would...but how would they get Yao? He loves Houston, Houston loves him...the salary cap, among other things. Its next to impossible unless they trade someone there, which Houston would require a franchise player (Kobe). It'd never happen unless somehow Yao signs in LA as a free agent if they ever have salary cap relief...

they would if they didn't have to give up too much to get yao, and if he can stay healthy for a whole season, cause he has been injury prone most of his career so far, which is y he didn't get most votes for NBA All Star game this year, so he'd have to stay healthy to be able to help LA win it all, just like that's reason him and T-Mac haven't been contenders yet in the West
