Because the anatomists who were looking at the brain and naming the parts were looking at dead brains. The brains were fixed in formaldehyde, and after that the gray matter looked gray, even if it is pink in the living organism. The pink color comes from the oxygenated red blood cells, and once they loose their oxygen, they change their color as well. And fixation of tissue changes color as well as the fixation is a chemical modification which also affects the molecules which give tissue its color.

because of the evolution of the use of words, and this happens to more than just this one word, i tend to also evolve how i use them. in this case i use the apostrophe which indicates truncation or contraction, 'man, which of course would mean human w/o the "hu" in front... just to try to get along w/ them. the main problem w/ the radical ones, is there is never any middle ground. they always want the seat left down and the lid up, we are supposed to cater to them. how is that equal. if we are equal, we each should have to put the lid/seat where we want it at every use.... i, in this case, always put the lid down, mostly because it keeps things from falling in the toilet, but also to force an equality upon them. i have to lift both toe pee, you have to lift at least one to pee... as soon as any feminist wants to argue w/ me i ask when she registered w/ selective service in order to prove she is actually equal, put her money where her mouth is so to speak. nothing but crickets then... the other issue is context and when some people go on about this tyheyr' only tryiong to get your goat, as it were, unless they truely don't understand english.
