I used to have cramps in my legs and my doctor told me that it could be from a calcium deficiency and to eat some Tums. I also eat bananas and since I have been doing both I have not had any cramps in my legs.

Often a leg cramp can be caused by a lack of salt or water. Generally with the type of lifestyle we have today it is probably the later. I found when I felt a cramp coming on during my pregnancy I would immediately straighten my leg and point my toes up. that without fail always stopped them dead in their tracks. Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Two things may help. Alternating ice/hot packs can help with cramping as can elevating your legs. Often times cramping is due to an over abundance of salt or a dificiency of potassium. Are you taking a prenatal vitamin? Eat bananas (for potassium) and avoid salty foods. Elevating your legs during the end of the day can help as well. My mom also always suggested taking a hot bath to help with leg cramps. Getting enough exercise will help as well. Best of luck to you.

UGH! midnight leg cramps are the worst!
Doctors are still not completly sure why these occur, although some will tell you it is from blood having trouble circulating in your system.. and recommend that you try sleeping with your legs elevated above heart level and streched out infront of you. I don't know how accurate this advice is, but it did help me a great deal.
Best of luck.

My OB had me take vitamin b whenI was pregnant. Also when I was sleeping I placed a thick body pillow between my legs. It helped me alot. I started this right away when I found out I was prenant with my second child and I was in very little discomfort my entire pregnancy.

Rub them down (doing leg/foot exercises too!), warm bath (not hot!) , keep your legs elevated when you can, diabetic socks and support hose also help, make sure you are wearing shoes that are comfortable and allow good circulation. these things help increase circulation and will also help with swelling.

Here's a site that lists other things such as supplements as well as when to know to see your doctor. http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/prenatalhealth/250.html
