I just just a 98 Mazda 626 last week it has been sitting for awhile got a pretty good deal on it. OK here's my problem car runs great but idles high. I took out the THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR and cleaned it up and now it dies. Well before I cleaned it up the car started great idled High but when it warmed up the only way to start is hold the gas too the floor. There is another sensor across from the throttle cable anybody know what it's called. I'm also going to take a throttle body off a Ford Probe and try that it's the same thing since I have a couple of probes around but any answers would be great. Thanks

That other sensor is called the Idle Air Control Valve. Those sometimes get gummed up with carbon. They can sometimes be cleaned, but if the cleaner gets inside the sensor it will ruin it. You can check the tps sensor with a voltmeter by turning the key on engine off and connecting the voltmeter to negative ground. To connect the other end take a paper clip or needle and back probe the wires on the connector going to the tps. You should see around 1 volt at closed throttle and 4.5 volts at wide open throttle on the signal wire going to the pcm. Be very careful probing the wires. So once you are on the correct wire move the throttle by hand and watch the voltage. It should climb steady without losing voltage. If it has incorrect voltage at any point then it is faulty. The fast idle problem could be connected to a problem the egr system as well. This is the best I can help without having the car in front of me. Hope it helps some.
