If you're referring to OCC, they do build a lot of their own stuff including frames, tanks & fenders, but also buy a lot of stuff from catalogs like Custom Chrome, J&P Cycles, Drag Specialties, etc... Why build something from scratch if the same item can be purchased over the counter?
As for the show, I don't really care for it - especially all the fighting, threats and drama. The bikes are cool to look at but are worthless for any serious riding. Good for a few short trips up and down the boulevard.
Jesse James with WCC is the real deal, fabricating most of his own stuff including frames, fenders, tanks, engine parts, wheels, handlebars, pipes, risers, etc... He's a real master with a torch and an English wheel. Sadly he makes more money on merchandising & royalties than bikes these days. But at least he's a decent guy and doesn't dish out lots of verbal abuse on his friends, family and employees. He also has the wonderful Sandra Bullock for a wife which has to count for something...

I dont think any body makes them from scratch any more ,its become big business , I go to these Bike build offs and see Bikes selling for 50 to 100 thousand dollars but never do I see any body riding down the street on one ,Are they made just to look at ,My goodness one bike was so low to the ground you would scrape a pebble in the driveway , Hard to even find people that really want to ride farther than the pub these days /peace

Actually they do make a lot of there own stuff including frames now and also a lot of bike builders buy frames from other places! Now they did buy frames and other parts but for the last year or 2 they have been building there own!

The appeal of the show is the dis-functional family that act like wild frat boys.
Their designs are ok but all of their bikes are built strictly for looks with no regard for performance or handling.
In fact the geometry of their "Gillette" bike was so bad that Paul Sr. (who rode it briefly only one time) said that it was "way too dangerous to ride and was only for show."
If you want to see truly innovative designs, watch "biker build off"
Quite frankly if it wasn't for the cursing and arguments and the stupid pranks the American Chopper show would not be near as popular as it is.

There are only a handfull of people on tv that are the real deal the tueltles or jessie james or any of these tv created pricks . but they have brought alot of attention to us as bikers and added supporters to our ranks as for buying a yuppie big tired billet barge if I wanted one Id have it built by one of the many local shops in our area so that when the wiring failed because there were no gromets through the frame I could go there and gripe.
(chrome don't gettcha home)

Ditto: (Gojira the Great). Americans are big-time trend humpers. Rooke is innovative but doesn't build the same "fat tire, stretched neck" so-called chopper that OCC does each show.. You can't buy "Jesse Rooke" hoodies down at the GAP, so he's not a flavor of the week.

Yeah, isn't that something? Shows you chopper fans aren't into motorcycles, they just like the badboy image. This goes for pretty much all new V-twin buyers, buying into a lifestyle instead of riding because they love it. Why else does Harley sell beef jerky?
The only fun watching that show is counting how many times those clowns the Teutels say "I gotta tell ya," every episode.

Knit 5; pearl 4 or whatever. Oh, and Jack you are much better looking than Mikey. The real answer is of course sheepskin. You use sheepskin as a Harley seat cover not some ugly crochet pattern.

I don't pay any attention to 'em anyway. I'm into building and riding choppers. That garbage is as far from choppers as you can get and still be on the planet.

Being on TV makes them well known, not one of the best. To find the best, you have to look past the end of your nose. At least they seem to use decent parts. It's amazing that some of them even run after the way they get hammered together.
