Delivery mechanism are important if a group of small cells is to operate more efficient than one large cell.

No different that a pizza delivery, if you have to deliver 4 pizzas to four different apartments in the same time it takes to deliver 4 pizzas to one big party you need a very efficient delivery system.

the group needs its nutrients more spread out, hence the delivery mechanism
