Also, this is for all thos systems you have on your PC such as firewall or anything that would be important for your computer to run smoother such as your anti-virus system (what ever kind of virus sweep you have).

This also includes any updates on any kind of game you may have so you can have more fun while you are online talking or instant messanging others.

Well I update mine twice a week, the anti virus files and then I go to windows update. It really depends on how often one uses their machine. I spend a lot of time reading my e-mail then playing games. So i ususally do my updating on a Monday and then again on Thursday.

for virus, adwares, spywares, etc, I have it set up so that as soon as new definitions are available, it would ask me if I want to download the latest definitions. it's mostly on an everyday basis.

if you mean update, as in hardware, memory, etc, then it's every 4 or 5 years. I'll just get a new pc when the old one doesn't serve my purpose or if it's too slow.

My anti-virus scanner and spyware sweeper auto update every week, auto running afterwards. I get Microsoft updates as they arrive. And I disk defrag when advised it's time.
