We instinctively find rounded heads, large eyes, and other neotonized features to be "cute" and to be protective of them. Some animals happen to have the same features, some don't.

The ones that are "cute" we try to protect. I suppose the advantage to us is that we use some animals as helpers/pets. But I find that a bit of a stretch. I'm sure that it evolved to protect our own young, not other animals.

They look innocent. Dont talk back. Are loyal.but keeping them as pets is thereupetic to humans not to animals. Its unnatural to them.

maybe people think of how helpless animals are compared to us. an they are at our mercy (sometimes unfortunately) . but as evolutionary point of view i think compassion is a must for a healthy future... when we were cavemen we didn't see things as compassion. but now that we are evolved compassion can help conserve our earth resources animals included. among the obvious benefits of compassion

We are all looking for someone to love and take care of.They let us hold, cuddle and pet them. They love us uncondtionally. and hardly ever "talk" back to us. What could be better than that!
