Why did we take the time and effort (not to mention American lives sacrificed) to liberate France from the National Socialists, only to have them fall to Socialism, this time by their OWN hand?

John S: >>The Nazis were in no way socialist<<
Umm, yes they were. Hitler's National Socialism was state socialism at its worse. It not only shared the socialism of fascism, but was explicitly racist. Reading Mein Kampf can be an almost perverse sorty of fun. Open any page at random and you will hear echos of the modern day Left.
Note that Marx wanted to "emancipate" (free) mankind from Jewry ("Judentum" in Marx's original German), just as Hitler did and that the title of Marx's essay in German was "Zur Judenfrage" -- which is exactly the same expression ("Jewish question") that Hitler used in his famous phrase "Endloesung der Judenfrage" ("Final solution of the Jewish question"). And when Marx speaks of the end of Jewry by saying that Jewish identity must necessarily "dissolve" itself, the word he uses in German is "aufloesen", which is a close relative of Hitler's word "Endloesung" ("final solution").

How a direct quote from Hitler himself?
"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions"

Well, too bad for you! Universal healthcare sucks! Hillary tried that crap before and she got smacked down. We don't want/need universal healthcare here. 40 million uninsured? Too bad! I don't really care about them.

I wish the United States would lean more towards some aspects of Socialism. Universal health care for all citizens is a pretty good reason to look at the Socialist governments of countries like Sweden and realize that our country isn't as great as we were taught to believe. But hey, I don't regret pledging allegiance to the flag for a minute.
As for France, I gotta tell you I enjoyed the Louvre, walked up about half of the Eiffel tower and in general felt unwelcome in the country while I spent money on souvenirs. During WWII our fathers and grandfathers saved them from the Nazi's (fascists). We should have planted old glory at the top of the Eiffel tower and kept it as the spoils of war. May in 50 or 100 years even granted France statehood and added another star to the "Stars and Stripes".
We didn't and the rest is history. If France has fallen to anything, it is their own arrogance. Those people are more full of themselves than Republicans.

The Nazis were in no way socialist, even less so communist. Hitler may have fancied himself a "people's man" but he was far from one. If have read Mein Kampf (maybe you should start with something easier, you don't want your first book to be something hard like mein kampf.) you'd know that Hitler viewed himself as the one who was going to obliterate Leftist French Socialism and Marxism, and replace it with what he called "National Socialism" (i.e. A nationalist far-right movement that is anything but socialism as the French, Russians, English, Americans, or anyone else in the world saw it.)
It should also be pointed out that the French saved our butts in the Revolution, and without them there wouldn't be an America.

You imply that Socialism is a bad thing. Although history has examples of bad "Socialist" regimes, the concept itself, and the desire to achieve it, is a honorable thing. Socialism means taking care of all our fellow people. To try to undermine some of the negative circumstances that have evolved out of generations of ignorant warfare. If the French are indeed Socialist, it's because they're trying to fix some of these wrongs. Can you blame them?
Since you ask why we bailed the French out during World War II in a way that communicates to me that you would've been okay with the Germans terrorizing and murdering more people, then maybe it is your principles that you should be questioning and not those of the "Socialist" French.

France has pretty much always been some sort of Socialism since the monarchy left for good. They either do not understand or do not care for democracy. After all true democracy is something one must fight for and keep fighting for. The French want government to take care of them without responsibility of keeping the government in check - that's just too much effort for them. Now they're paying for it.
I know we have problems here in the states and it's not a perfect government but at least we Americans keep working at it. Thank you to our vets.

France is not socialist. Some of the most significant corpoartions in the world are Frence. By definition therefore, France is not socialist.
National Socialism had nothing to do with socialism, The Hitler quote you posted is from a speech to garner votes by appealing to the benefits socialism had for the average person. Throught Hitler's reign there was private property and business.
In many countries, the most conservative party has "Liberal" in its name.

That is just a very old stereotypical perception about France by Americans. You should look into the rich history of the French Foriegn Legion, read up on french culture, or (this is probably more your speed) go to blockbuster or suncoast and find a movie called "Killing Zoe".

Well, they're not true socialists, they're at worst moderate socialists, but you don't care, do you?
When we liberated France, we were liberating them from foreign occupiers, who happened to be Jew-killing bastards.
It really had nothing to do with economic theory. (As you'll recall, one of our greatest allies in the war was communist... very, very communist.)
If they want to screw their country up with Keynesian economics, let them. It doesn't affect you, or at least it shouldn't.
