The stars are more for recognition as opposed to the thumbs up being worth more points when you're granted best answers. Good question!

If chosen as best answer, thumbs can be worth up to 50 extra points. Stars on questions aren't worth points but might get your question featured on YA start page. Stars are also saved on your Q&A home page so you can see whose questions you like. Naturally you're on my star list :o)

Neither means anything. Lots of stars can get your questions featured as the feature question on the answers home page (or yahoo home page). Lots of thumbs up mean nothing as far as I know. So I dont usully waste my time. I notice most other people dont either. The only thing that means anything is a vote for best answer.

It's better to have more thumbs up only if you have them in your best answers. If not, they (and the stars) are useless.
