most hernias need surgery to prevent complications like strangulation and gangrene of the prolapsed bowel. in the old days trusses were used to keep them in. nowadays many hernias can be repaired by 'keyhole' surgery, and patients can be discharged in a day or so.

It depends on the location of the hernia. Some hernia's are not surgically repaired but rather a belt or brace is used to support the hernia. A hernia is a weekness in the muscular wall. Abdominal hernia's can benifit from an abdominal brace. This will prevent the hernia from worsening. RN Nursing.

A hernia can only be repaired by surgery. If the hernia is not causing any problems such as pain or obstruction of an intestine then you can leave it alone. If it becomes entrapped, then you are in trouble and need help fast. I had two hernias for almost thirty years, never gave me a problem, had twins,no problem, then within six months of each other, both became bigger and painful. Had surgery, done in no time and no problems. Like I said, surgery is the only answer if it is causing issues, you can't reduce it or anything. You can try to press it back in,but likely will fail. Good luck.

You can't do anything to treat a hernia. It will only get worse if you don't go to a doctor and have the surgery to remedy the problem.

Hernias are surgically repaired. They actually wrap the hernia with a mesh wrap. My mom has had like 8 hernia repairs cause she kept tearing through the mesh wrap.
