How do you really connect to someone as a friend?

I know that making friends means to make a good first impression, introducing by name and setting a relationship status. Other then that—sharing the same interest/having things in common. But how do you really connect to someone as a friend?

Once you guys share the same interests and spend more time together, conversation will turn to a more personal nature. Not just work or grades or how good the game was last night. Just stick it out, try and throw in a good joke every now again and try and be the intiator every once in awhile when it comes to something fun to do.

John, first learn to be your own best friend. If you can learn to truly love and honor yourself, then you will find that those you choose as friends are only those who will honor you. You can tell what a person thinks about himself by who he chooses as friends. So, be the kind of person you would want as a friend. If you can honor yourself, you will automatically honor others.
Having said all this, it is important to truly listen to what your friends have to say, to empathize with them, to honor and respect their feelings and to be honest and truthful with them. Which is, after all, being the kind of friend you would want to have.

You be there for them when they need it, care for them and always remain loyal to the end. If you and your friends can rely on each other totally and would do anything for each other then you will be friends forever

myself, i just open up and begin reltatin' dudes to jazz!!
jazz being anything and everything about who iam or what i believe. once you do that most people open right up to find common ground. it establishes trust yo!
