a toner is supposed to be used after cleansing to remove any residue of cleanser and make up. It is also supposed to remove dead skin cells... (like the clinique exfoliating lotion). For oily skin, it removes excess oil.

Normally it is taught by beauty consultant to do the 3 steps cleanse, tone and moisturise. Some likes to use lukewarm water when washing their face with a cleanser. This can open up the pores of our skin. A toner is used to tighten the pores so that they wld look smaller after the wash and also to 'squeeze' out the remaining residue. Den u applied ur moisturiser. If u want to follow those beauty tips, then buy a toner. O/w, by cleansing and moisturising wld be gd enuff.

Toners have a couple purposes: remove any debris you missed whilst cleansing (but really shouldn't we just cleanse better? :) & to restore the ph balance to your skin's acid mantel. This is important because your skin will try to do it on it's own. This is why it is sometimes too oily or too dry as it is trying to regulate. You only need to use a toner if your cleanser is not ph balanced. The bottle will say if it is or not. It is important to use a good toner, preferably without alcohol because this dries so much.

I develop cosmetics and the best use for toner that i can find is to prepare the skin to accept the pricier things like moisturizer. Think about how much more absorbent a damp sponge is than a dry one- the same is true of toned skin.

Toner makes the ph of your skin neutral which makes it a good starting point for your moisturizer and make up to go to.

to balance the ph of your skin, add some moisture, clean your skin..you can deal without a toner, but it does have its benefits.

It is use to even out the skin tone and some has pour refining agents in them, and give off a more radiat look. And that is all you need to do unless you have one of the above problems.
