What are the 5 biggest misconceptions the general public have about gays, and why are they wrong?

any way here is my answer:
1) that we are all child molestors. actually it has been proved by criminalists and physcatrists that 98% of child molesters are
straight and are married or live a straight life.

2) that we all have aids and that we are the cause of it. not all of us have aids, in fact there have been a large increase in african american women having hiv or aids in the last 5 years and they contract it from theirt boyfriends or husbands. most cases of which the boyfriend or husband has used iv drugs.

3) that we are after every person with a p.ecker. our attraction to the same gender does not make us attracted to the whole gender. just as straight men are not attracted to the whole female gender and vise versa.

4) that all gay men are feminine and all lesbians are butch. there is in fact some that are, but about 80% are not and you would not be able to tell by meeting them in the supermarket.

5) that all we think about is sex. we do think about sex, but no more or less then straight people. it is just that when someone brings up gay people in a straight conversation all they talk about is the "perverted" things we do sexually. like guys giving other guys oral sex. like they haven't asked their girlfriends to do that. but no one stops to think that we are human beings to and we have jobs and families and an entire life that has nothing to do with sex.

1. Gay people are responsible for AIDS. - Gay people did not originate AIDS, nor were they responsible for it's inception to humans. The only reason AIDS spread like wildfire in the gay community, is because people were not well educated about stds when AIDS was new, and there was no risk of pregnancy (IE: a condom) between same-sex partners.

2. Gay people are perverts and child molesters. - I think it's been stated enough by several well profiled psychology institutions and firms that gay people are NOT the most likely candidates to be child molesters or even rapists. Maybe we should turn to the middle-aged, straight, white males with the "molester" accusing finger.

3. Straight people should be careful of gay people hitting on them. - Okay if you know a gay person, who knows your straight, how likely do you think you are to be hit on by them? As far as my personal experiences go, I've never met any gay person who hit on a known straight person.

4. Gay people hate religion. - I can't even tell how someone could be ignorant enough to believe this one. Gay people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and religions. There are gay religious people (like it or not Christians), and they are every bit as holy and religious as the next religious person. Religion and beliefs are not confined by sexuality. If you argue about "following only what you want", it could be easily argued that Christian bigots do not follow some of the most basic and well-known biblical statements. Does love thy neighbor even exist to them?

5. Gay people are unfit parents. - This one is a hot topic right now in alot of countries. Over the past several years, gay couples who have adopted children have been watched very close by governmental and psychological programs over their child's progress and happiness in their adoptive home. All results have been conclusive that there is absolutely no proof or difficulty in children being raised in a gay household.

These are just a few of the misconceptions society has on gay people, there are plenty more that I can think off of the top of my head, but since you only asked for 5, that's all I'm gonna do. Hope this clears it up a bit. :)

#1 we are no different than any other people except who we live with and love
#2 we do not recruit children...I consider a child to be someone in his mid 30's
#3 we do not try to recruit anyone..we don't need to ...there are more than enough of us to go around
#4 we are genuinely happy living like this
#5 none of us ever chose this life style
#6 most of the reason that gay teenage suicide is so high is because of the pressure put on them by the straight population.

4. You can always tell homosexuals by the way they look or act. Men who act in a feminine manner must be gay. Masculine women with short haircuts and deeper voices must be lesbians.

~ a lot are promiscuous and majority don't "settle down"
~ they were molested at some point growing up
