Wow. What a tough question. The first thing that came to my mind was this: the most emotionally moving book that I have ever read is The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. It's unlike anything I had ever read before. I used to see people reading it on the train/bus, and never even thought about it. One day a friend lent it to me and I stayed up until about 4 a.m. so that I could finish reading it. It was a truly fascinating story.

I think I left this for another Answerer, but if you're looking for some fun chick-lit type books, check out these authors: Jane Green, Jennifer Weiner, Emily Griffin, Melissa Senate, Sophie Kinsella, Sarah Mylnowski, Jane Sigaloff, Whitney Gaskell. I really enjoy all of their books. Very fun, light-hearted chick-lit books.

If you want to laugh hysterically, check out any of Laurie Notaro's books. She's a hoot.

Have fun!

Try the earth children series by Jean M. Auel. They are absolutely wonderful. The story is set in the stone age (25 000 years ago) and follow the life story of a young girl, but u will find her quite modern in a very srtange way. There are 5 books in stores for the moment, the 6th is due to come out but don't know when.

If u don't want to read a series, try The Labyrinth by Kate Moss (not the top model). It is a new theory about the grail but much better than the Da'vinci code

Its hard to pick one book as the best. I really enjoyed The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. I got really attached to the characters and was sad when the books were over. So, I recommend those.

Another great book is Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore.

Anything by Anne Rice usually proves to be a good a read. I enjoyed the vampire chronicles and Servant of the Bones. Jack London's White Fang, Call of the Wild, or the Sea Wolf.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is a very moving novel. About a fourteen year girl who is raped and murder. The story is told as she looks down from heaven.

Hope that helps. Good reading.

Although it is hard for me to pick here are a few:

The Kite Runner- An excellent novel in light of current events it is being read in colleges all over. It is very well written, has a lovely plot and some unexpected twists and turns.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. Gives you a view of the world through the eyes of an autistic child. It is quite eye opening. My aunt works with autistic children and she said that it portrays their thinking process quite accurately.

A Hope in the Unseen by Ron Suskind. It follows a inner-city black boy on his quest to get into an ivy league college. It is a wonderful story, especially if you are in college.

And if you'd like some fluffy teen fantasy. Anything by Tamora Pierce.

The stand by Stephen King. I read it back in the 80's and I thought it was great but kind of far fetched but now its terrifyling real. Its about a government super virus that gets out and kills almost everyone on earth and how the surviors deal.

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.

It is seriously the best book I have ever read. I was entranced from the first sentence. I definetely reccomend it.

It is a book about a circus back in the 1930s, with romance twists to it.

Term Limits by: Vince Flynn

It's a really fast paced book, with a decent amount of action. It's kind of a political thriller. I don't want to go into it that much; in case you decide to read it.

I recommend this book to everyone. Hell, I recommend all of his books. He writes a series of books with a main character by the name of Mitch Rapp; they're excellent books.

Ishmael, Daniel Quinn
The Story of B, Daniel Quinn

The books change your perspective of the human race and our place in the world. I suggest everyone read them. They changed me and verified feelings I had previously.
