I don't like fantasy and mystery books.

Preferably books with tragedies that people face through and overcome their problems, something like that, if not tell me another book to read.

Thank you

:)

It is too bad you don't like fantasy because most of the good books I read are YA fantasy. You don't even like Harry Potter because that is fantasy? Well, if you change your mind Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith is an amazing novel.

Anyway, to be more helpful there is a book called "A hope in the Unseen" by Ron Suskind. It is about a young adult, although the writing style might be too adult to classify as a young adult novel. I read it my freshman year of high school. It definitely fits your struggling to achieve criteria.

A lighter YA read is The Queen's Own Fool by Jane Yolen or Esperanza Rising. Both are historical fiction novel, that also fulfill your criteria. I think you might enjoy Esperanza Rising more. But you can look up brief summaries of both on Amazon.

Do you like vampires? Twilight is good. 4 books 500+ pages each Vampire Diaries is good. 4 books 250+pages each I also read Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" series at that time. They are still the best vampire series. 6+books 600+pages each SiFi Wizards & Dragons? Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth Series, book 1 is "Wizard's First Rule". 11 books 700+pages each. ----I don't think the Sword of Truth series was for young adults but I think overall it is much more appropriate for young adults than Twilight. I really LOVE this series. ----- Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's DragonLance Series, First Trilogy is "The Chronicles" 200+books in this series 250+pages each I read DragonLance and Anne Rice while I was in high school or jr high. They are still my favorites 15 years later. I hope you find some of these interesting. Stephen King has a series of 7 books, The Dark Tower...I am starting these now. I know my dad LOVED them and we have the same taste in books. Going off of some other recomendations: The Secret Circle was a pretty good series, witches and some greek mythology. I also liked G.R.R Martin Song Of ICE and Fire 4 book series. Gone With the Wind is a favorite. Along the same lines..The Thorn Birds.

it's not exactly a young adult novel, but i don't remember it being exceptionally hard to read or comprehend...
the fortunate pilgrim - mario puzo

the catcher in the rye - j.d. salinger....might be the #1 book that all "young adults" must read before they become real adults.

enjoy!
