I agree with UncanyValley, in that the musician pool is certainly more watered down nowadays. This is due to the merger of the record companies that happend about 1998 or 1999. I'm 29 and I feel sorta out of touch with music now because of the unoriginality of musicians.

I also think that back in 1994 when Green Day debuted with Dookie, that album created a whole generation of "Punk" rockers. Then with the emergence of Sum 41, Blink 182, and reemergence of Green Day, it's totally taken over the industry. I have found that more and more bands have that "punk" edge.

The reason why I have "punk" in quotes is because, these bands have NO CLUE what punk really is. Punk Rockers would never sell out like these bands have. Example: Time of Your Life - Green Day. Total sell out song. It's like a 13 year old boy that is wearing a Husker Du t-shirt. He's wearing to look cooler than he really is, not because he know who Husker Du is or that he likes their music.

Another example of unoriginality, is Linkin Park. Have you ever noticed how all of their songs sounds pretty much the same? It's really sad when you use the same bassline and synthesized sound in every song. If you compare them to say Nine Inch Nails...Nails wins hands down.

Just my opinion anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean.. I think there are LOTS of great rock n roll bands.

If they're coming up, you just haven't heard of them yet... ;)

They're still around, you just have to work harder to find them. Apparently, the music industry must not think rock n roll is very marketable at the time being. Hang in there, the tide will change.

It's the cycle of music. We are enjoying what we 'harvested' in the last cycle...the season began with Nirvana. The new crop is still growing and is almost ready for harvest...... 2 years tops and there will be a new British invasion..... a whole new musical perspective. I can't wait!

They are, you're looking in wrong places. There are no good musicians on MTV, VH1, rock magazines... they are all Timberlake's and Britneys toys. Real musicians are in so-called jam bands - Moe., Umphrey's McGee, Widespreag Panic... look for JamBase and see what you find. And leave charts and MTV to scum who deserve nothing better.

if you dig rock music, check out the burden brothers. the lead singer used to be of the Toadies, if you've ever heard of them.
