Does anyone know if a residential lot can be converted to a commercial lot for business?

You can't convert a lot into a commercial one, but you can start a home business instead. While you can hire employees, you will always be the manager.

Sims 2 is a great game!
You can't move everyone out and change it to a residential building, and save all the furniture - unfortunately. You can, however, put in a call on your phone and start a home business: you simply flip the sign, and then, people come to your house to buy instead of you being forced to drive off. That's my especially favourite kind of business, because the family are all automatically employees.
