It's just a political @$$ kissing session now; no real meaning to the award anymore.

Like most award shows the purpose is for companies in a particular industry to generate interest in their industry, which they hope will result in increased profits. By having an awards show it creates the appearance that the nominees and winners are newsworthy. But of course they are going to give out all the awards every year whether there's any exceptional work being done or not.

It's just to show that some people like different artist more than they do the others, so who ever like the same artist the most get's the Grammy.

It used to be about respect and talent, now it's about who pays the most to win the award. So really, there isn't any purpose.
