Id say a movie is a primary source, you could write something like:

"In the early 20Cent Horror films focused on aliens from space, this reflects the Isolation policy at the time and fear of more earthly aliens (other countries)."

You'll have to verify this with your teacher, but a movie might be considered a primary source. Do an internet search for books and articles on your subject, which are the scholarly form of primary sources.
Your teacher should have given you a paper, or a lecture, on what these are for your class's project. The librarian at your school should be able to help as well.

It seems the you are maybe looking at a paper on urban legends.
What scares us?? the man in the closet?(jason) the zombie(dracula etc), end of the world(orsen wells)??
Look at the different types of Horror..
Gore
Shock
Psychological thriller (saw..I hated that.. freaked me out)

compare and contrast them and and show how they have evolved, and how that affects us now vs 1950.
Maybe look at the writers and producers too.
Steven King, John Saul, Michael Chriton

Talk about our fears of being hurt, stalked, etc.
Look at urban legends too
The scariest movie I ever saw was Trilogy of terror, the one with Karen Black and the statue.
