It's not so much a saying, more like advice. Whenever I wanted to buy something, my dad would always make me think how many hours I had to work in order to pay for something. If you think about it, he made a lot of sense. His words to me would be "How many hours do you have to work to pay for that?" I still use that advice to this day.

My dad was a Marine. I even wrote my SAT essay on that saying. And scored very well, I might add ♥

My mum is the only one who has a saying, which is: sorry isnt good enough- she would always say this to me if I did something wrong and tried to apologise with Im sorry.
Now that Im grown up I think of easier answers so I dont have to hear it.

Dad whenever I spent money, which usually was not much, "You just can stand prosperity can you?" Dad, "Keep your powder dry." (means be ready) Mom, not much with repetitious advice, but I did shock her often and I could count on hearing, For Heavens sake Robert Allen." (my first & last name).

My parents...no. But my Grandfather ...Yes. He had many motivating sayings. He has passed but some of them still resonate in my head. In many ways make my life so much better. Just a few of my favorites: "Whataya f***** nuts?". ...."Don't look to me. You're on your own pal". ..." I wouldn't do that s*** if I was you". Just a few of the timeless gems he left me with.
It is wonderful to have such fond memories of such a supportive man.

Yeah. Two, both are from my dad.
1. "Take care of your gear, and your gear will take care of you." This advice has saved my *** a couple of times.
2. "You wanna cry; I'll give you a reason to cry." I just think this one is kinda funny; it did work though. I would pretty much stop crying as soon as he said it when I was a kid.

(hi, katydid)(i dint)
Dad = "if ya' stop ta' think, you'll think ta' stop" (finally I stopped and thought, and I didn't come up with anything); "go piss up a rope"(about someone else);"one of these days I'm gonna' walk out that door" (sometimes he felt a little desperate); "godamitahell"; "shitferbrains"; "a closed mouth gathers no foot"
Mom = "oh, that man"; "well, you shouldn't have done that/been there"

My mom:
What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.
People in hell want ice water.
When donkeys fly.
Six to one, half a dozen to others...
My grandpa: The devil made her do it. (When defending me after doing something I shouldn't have)

When my room was a mess my parents used to tell me that it looked like my stuff was "spread from hell to breakfast." I never did understand where that one came from.
