ok i just recently moved out of my house, my parents never let me get a job and never prepared me for search and application process. I've been to a couple places and filled out applications and did those personality test. and my question is that the first time i filled out those personality test they told me i was not what they were looking for b/c i didn't put a 5 for every answere indicating that i was fantastic at that skill, i put a 4 on a couple of them being honsest, and i've heard this from at least 3 companies, so should i put that i'm great at everything on this test? and they ask questions about if you've ever stolen anything from a company that you've worked for, i have not so i put that for all 5 times they asked through the sheet, and a site on the internet said that if you say that you haven't ever stolen anything on the test it says that, that response indicates that your lying. is that true? because i really have not stolen from a company.

Don't pay attention to the results you get on those personality tests. And if you do take them, be honest like you said you did so that you'll feel comfortable talking to them in an interview.

I'd like to offer some suggestions to you while you are job searching:

The most important thing to remember about job searches is that you should use a combination of methods regardless of your location.

Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don't need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online.

Check your local paper -- In many cases the paper's classified are now online.

Search Smart Online -- If you don't have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com.

Organization -- I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. This site is jobsearchlog.com and it has been very useful to me, please go and check it out!

Good Luck,

Karen

Job preparation is part of schooling usually.
Personality tests are done in high school. If you got good grades, or have a good relationship with counselors at school, look for at least a couple of those people who could give you a good reference. Tell them you are looking for work and ask if they could provide a good reference for you.

Try to find a business that is not dependent upon those silly questions. Many many companies do not do that!

Any company can say you are not what they are looking for, and they can do that without any tests at all. Be sensible and confident when you make application. Do not go into places where you would not be proud of working. But if you are young, get experience in food stores, cashiering, stocking of products, etc. Go to school in your off hours. Nowdays you can get a college education using the Internet after applying for online education. Things could not get easier to upgrade your education. Do not blame your inadequacies on your parents. No one wants to hear that!

Those personality tests are stupid, but unfortuantely more and
more companies are using them. I think it's unfair for someone
to be totally eliminated from an opporturnity for employment
based on their answers to those thing. The best advise I can
give is to put yourself in the employer's chair. Think about what
it is he's looking for in his employees. Sometimes, being too
honest can hurt you.
