Well, they are replacing Frank Thomas and Barry Zito with Mike Piazza and Joe Kennedy.....so I would say yes....No playoffs for these A's.

They lost Zito, so what? Look at his stats since he won the Cy Young a couple of years ago. I could find you 100 other pitchers with better stats, and at least 2 on the A's right now. He had one good game against the Twins in the playoffs, and that was just to make sure that he was going to get paid in the free agent market. Frank Thomas is a loss, but I really think that Piazza is going to settle into the DH role nicely and find his swing(especially with being able to t-off against the Rangers and Mariners so many times). And if Shannon Stewart can come back and give them a decent lead off man the A's have a better chance of winning the division than the Angels.

Yes, I think the A's have finally done it this time by not getting anyone to replace the departed Barry Zito. They have just let too many starters get away the last couple years and have not really replaced them with the quality that they lost. You can only go on so long without replenishing.

Get serious --no Zito,no Thomas
How could you expect them to be as good?
Personlly,hope they do well,but think
they let their window of opportunity close
or rather slam shut on them

Billy Beane is a genius and ALL A'S FANS should feel so lucky that they have him as a GM. Read MONEYBALL if you don't agree with me. I read it. It took me two months and it was my bathroom reading material but hey, it was definitely one of the best books I've ever read in my life.
