I see many more "mature" people try to pass their wisdom onto me and my more youthful friends. It seems age only brings a excessive degree of confidence or rather superiority. (No offense older crowd, but hey, a lot of people do this, and I don't appreciate being treated like i know little of the world)

The older people in your life are concerned that you dont repeat the mistakes they have made in their lives. Anyone who is aware & willing to learn gains wisdom everyday. Thinking you know too much is worse than thinking you know nothing & are willing to learn. You dont have to accept all the advice bestowed on you but try listening with a open mind

Wisdom does come with the experience. The experience of your soul. Often times you see a young person with much more wisdom than an older individual; feel maturity beyond age. How can that be explained? To me, it means that it's an "old soul" who has been through more lifetimes and experiences. And then others never seem to "grow up"; hence is the term man-boys.
So wisdom can come even from a child, while someone with an immature personalilty may live all the years of his life without realizing anything and dying a fool.

<>I don't know if experience always brings wisdom (hence the expression "learning fom one's mistakes") but certainly the more experience one gains gives greater insight ("seeing the 'whole' picture"). It is easier for "older" people to give advice to "younger" people than it is for youngsters to take it. It often seems insulting or galling to think you are being treated as a know-nothing. But, there are some real pearls offered sometimes so, no matter how 'offensive,' it is wise to at least consider what is being offered and keep in mind that it is only an attempt to help, not an insult. I often think about how much better off I'd be today if I'd listened to at least a couple of those "old codgers."

Wisdom does not come naturally, but it will be bestowed on those who seek it with a sincere heart. So getting older unfortunately does not guarantee you will get wiser. Wisdom, like any other skill, will grow with age if it is cultivated, so there are a lot of very wise older people from which you can learn a lot. But on the other hand, there's no fool like an old fool and you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Life is the universal teacher of wisdom and the good student is he whose thinking process is blessed with both an analytical and a lateral approach. Every single individual, therefore, is exposed to more and more intake of wisdom with the passage of time as life keeps throwing up variety of experience. However, every individual can not become wiser to the same degree due to the difference in the inherent capability to think analytically and laterally.
Therefore, every old guy need not be wiser than a younger guy... however, a particular guy would necessarily be acquiring more and more wisdom as he grows in age.

Does experience bring the ability to see the whole picture? Is it not experience that brings the ability to see the whole picture wisdom?

Both can have the ability to see the whole picture and to have that learning experience regardless of their age,,,, but i still respect that our grandparents have much more wisdom...

Here's a bit of wisdom for ya Sparky. Call it experience if you wish.

"Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill".

Print out your question and keep it in your file.
In 20 years, read it.
You will chuckle, I promise.
20 years later, read it again.
You will laugh out loud!
