India has to have the best range of vegetarian food in the world. We spent some time there and ate mainly vegetarian but did eat meat. Many places sell great meat dishes and although we ate vegetarian alot more than we had meat we never did get sick over a 3 months period

Having said that all I can say is that travelers I met who became sick often blamed it on meat that was off. Hard to know as there can be many factors for illness

Again this needs to be put into perspective because there are other issues at play. One is personal hygiene. Most food places have hand basins as one way to get sick is to bring it in on your hands from the outside and then eat. Another is where you eat and how adapted your stomach is. New travellers who have not yet had their stomach adapt to local food may need to be more cautious. Experiences travelers will often advise against eating from street stalls- at least until you have had a chance to allow your stomach to adapt and have an idea about which ones are okay and which not.

Another factor is drinking water, most places serve water with meals. Many places will have good water but others you need to be cautious about. Generally we drank bottle water but again this has started to become an enviromental issue with plastic bottle wastage

It is quite safe to eat non-vegetarian food in a decent restaurant or hotel. I have been eating non-vegetarian food, both home cooked and in restaurants and have never suffered any illness because of that. moreover in India the meats are thoroughly cooked and are not eaten rare as in the western countries.

India, being a primarily Hindu country, beef is rarely served. Pork is also not easily available. Eat non-vegetarian food only in good restaurants. What you get in smaller places is generally of dubious quality though tastes quite yummy, thanks to concoctions of Indian spices and masalas.

very "tricky" question ........

Non-vegetarian as such is not safe! any where in the world!!!

by comparison - Thailand has Cockrroach Chutney, Vietnam has Monkey -brain, Korea has Snake-skin-jiuce etc; if these are SAFE; then India is very-very SAFE for any kind of food..........

welcome to India - Incredible;

many-ques!!!
