Very few people have hair that's a true black so I don't find it strange at all. I think you're right about people thinking that Asians naturally have black hair. I always thought that I had black hair also until I went through a phase where I started highlighting and coloring my hair. When I decided to go back to my natural color, I asked to have my hair died black...only to have everyone tell me "what did you do to your hair?" and "it's so dark". I thought it was my natural color but apparently my natural color was a very dark brown and not black.

China is an immense nation, in size and diversity. The Hawaiians are generally a mixture of many cultures and nationalities, the first to mix with the native being Irish. So, I guess it is possible to even be Asian and have Red Hair or Blond Hair. Genes that are recessive eventually show up in someone in the family.
but does it really matter. With your heritage I am sure you have beautiful hair.

To my knowledge, Asians in South and East Asia all have black hair, but some Asians in W. Asia(the middle east) may have brown hairs. Jesus Christ is an Asian. He has brown hair.

Generally, pure Asians have hair in different shades of black. Some bordering brown. Some are even brown.
Since you are not "pure" Asian, there is no reason to insist that your hair is black.
