I am 33 weeks pregnant and have been on meds to stop my labor since I was 28 weeks. I am dialated to a fingertip and the baby's head is right there. Everyday I get more and more restless and impatient but worried aswell. On the 28th I will be taken off the medication and I am a lil scared. I will be 36 weeks but I want my son to be able to feed ok. I guess my question is for those who have been there or know someone who has.

HI there
Oh at 36 weeks your baby has a fantastic start!
One of my sons was born at 35 weeks and only spent 6 days in hospital.. yes he was small.. 5lb6oz but is a happy naughty 2 yr old now!
When pregnant with our daughter I went into prem labour at 21weeks but thankfully the contractions were stopped.
I continued the meds and at 28 weeks she couldnt wait any longer.
She was born 12 weeks early weighing 2lb4oz.
She will be 1 in 3 weeks!! she is still small for her age but perfect in every way!

Enjoy your pregnancy and best of luck.

I was actually in the same situation. I was also on Medication at about 26 weeks to keep from going into labor with my daughter. My doctor also took me off the medication at 36 weeks and said there should be no problems if my daughter was born then. The funny thing is she took me off the medication and my daughter then decided she didn't want to come. I was 39 weeks before I had my daughter and was dialated to 2 at 36 weeks when she took me off the meds. So don't worry it might be longer than you think. I am sure if you did have your son at 36 weeks he would be okay, I am pretty sure the lungs are developed fully by then. Congratulations and Good Luck.

At 36 weeks your baby is almost full term. Most people think that full term is 40 weeks but it is not. Your babies sucking reflex has kicked in so you don't have to worry about him not being able to feed.
Although having said all of that I wouldn't be surprised if your son is small for his age since you have had some problems during your pregnancy, but if your doctor is wanting to take you off the medication he must feel comfortable about the health of your little guy.
You really need to talk to your doctor and explain your feelings and fears. Only your doctor can tell you how your baby is doing.

My third child was born at 36 weeks 6 days. She weighed 8 lbs even and is as healthy as the rest of my children. I didn't have any preterm labor issues, she was just ready.

Sometimes babies born a little early will be more likely to have jaundice, but it's easily treatable.

I first went into labor at 33 weeks but it was stopped. I had pre-eclampsia. I went into labor again at 35 weeks which they tried to stop but i had my son anyhow by c-section and he was born healthy with no problems what so ever. He weighed 4lbs 15.6oz and was 17 inches long. He got out the same day as i did from the hospital. It was a 3 day stay. He he now 5 years old. You will be fine. Congrats!

I just went through that myself. My daughter was born 3 days after I was taken off of my medication, at 36 weeks, and she is doing very well, though on the small side.

Your OBGYN wouldn't take you off of the medicine if he thought there would be problems with your baby. Have faith!

Congrats on being so close!

That depends on how big your baby is; I was born at 35 weeks and was tiny, but boys tend to be bigger than girls. I would say to buy one or two outfits in preemie size, some in newborn, and the rest in 0-3 months. That way you're covered for every possible outcome barring delivering a toddler. :P

Hi Amber m,
They will probably take you off the medication then because you will be able to have the baby safely then:) I delivered one of my children at 36wks, and he wasn't even in the humidi-crib for 2 days, and he fed and was fine. Every baby is different, but there will be support in the hospital too for any problems or worries you might have at the time too. All the best and congratulations on your little one they dont stay little for long- enjoy!! Mother of 5

Babies born at 36 weeks have an excellent survival rate! 37 weeks is considered full-term for twins, and they're fine. Your baby may be a bit small, and there is a possibility he'll need some help breathing for his little lungs, but they are nearly mature at this point, at he should be fine! Best of luck to you and your eager little baby!
