Funny isn't it? I think its because the majority of the public have come to realize that Natalie Maines was correct in her critcism of Bush. His approval ratings help to prove that, too!

Not particularly. I'm sure some loons threatened them because they disagreed with their blatant anti-Americanism. Most folks just stopped buying or playing their songs.

The Academies are pretty liberal in general, so it's not too surprising that they'd get an award from them - Ideally, they're not supposed to factor any politics in at all, but in this case, I'd bet they did somewhat.

Either way, not terribly puzzling.

EDIT: You'll note that they got not a single nomination for the COUNTRY Music Awards and couldn't fill their stadiums on their last tour. The Liberals love 'em, but the folks they want to buy their songs don't. Not a good trade ,financially.

The people who threatened the DCs' lives are different people than the Grammy voters.

Not at all. It says that there are more people out there that cherish freedom of speech. That's what makes this country worth living here. I can say whatever is on my mind, and no one can do it. I can offend people, hurt someones feelings, disrespect the president (although I agree with the Dixie Chicks' opinion), and no one can do anything about it.

Not only can no one do anything about it, but some people applaud their freedom and liberty. I am one of those people.

Not puzzling, just a sign of the times. One of the spoke what was on their mind, and it got bad press. Other news came along, and it turns out-I think anyway that people now fully understand why they are 'ashamed Bush came from Texas'. I'm glad he didn't come from my state!
They got the awards for good music not making a comment. The music was good that means they are good artists. I don't like country music really, but I don't blend up an artist, musician, actor or person with whatever mistake they made. Try it.

Thank God we live in a country where you have the right to speak you mind and not get killed for it! Our first amendment right should never be taken away. With that being said, one should know that if they open their big fat mouth and say stupid crap, someone else has the right to disagree with them. The problem with the Dixie chunks is, that they think they are the OLNY one with the 1st amendment right!

My opinion is they can dish it out, but they can't take it... just like most libs...
If you are so embarrassed about being an American, try that crap you did in London in Iraq... you stupid cows....Maybe some insurgents will show you how much they appreciate your opinions.

Yeah, but you see how long it took? At first everybody was against them thinking they were against the troops. It almost became illegal to say anything negative about King George or the war in this country! Now suddenly everybody can see what a horrible mistake this war is and they want to make it up to the Chicks by giving them a Grammy sweep. My how times have changed.

Most radio talk show hosts have their lives threatened daily for speaking there minds....the Dixie chicks were not singled out.

What I hate, is that they talked bad about our President...just to sell more records. Then they tried to spin it by saying that people thought they weren't supporting the troops.

NO!

HELLO!

It was because the Dixie CHicks said what they thought foreigners wanted to hear, to sell more records in a that country!!!! To make more $$$$$$$....

Free speach is for EVERYONE...not just the Dixie chicks. Say what you want...but then we can also say what we think about what you said.

*That* is Free Speach.

There was a directed effort by right wing supporters of George Bush to ruin their careers in the same way they have ruined people in Washington who don't fall in line with the lies coming out of the White House. (Plame, Generals, diplomats...)
The put out an excellent piece of music by way of response, and it deserves every award that can be given.

They got a Grammy for their music. It has nothing to do with their political views.
